STEP 1: DEEPEN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATIONAL POPULAR VOTE

STEP 2: USE AN EASY AUTOMATED SYSTEM TO EMAIL YOUR STATE LEGISLATORS AND OFFICIALS NOW

The National Popular Vote organization offers a quick and easy AUTOMATED SYSTEM to ask your New Mexico legislators and other officials to support the National Popular Vote bill (http://www.national-popular-vote.com/Campaign/NM/NM6). Right NOW is an excellent time to do so even though several legislators were freshly elected in the midterm and will not take office until January, incl. New Mexico's governor-elect, Michelle Lujan Grisham. Please plan to repeat this step in January for extra emphasis and to reach the freshly elected folks as well.

After pressing the SEND EMAILS button you will receive an email confirmation that lists the names of the state legislators and officials to whom your message was sent, along with other actions you can take.

Since your message destination was custom-tailored to your zip code, the names shown under YOUR LEGISLATORS in the confirmation email are the New Mexico Representative and Senator for whom you are a CONSTITUENT, which means that you live in their legislative district and have voting power over their political careers.

STEP 3: GIVE OF YOURSELF

Donate at least a small portion of your energy and time to ACTIVELY support the National Popular Vote as a FOUNDATIONAL cause so that, first, we establish a way to count presidential votes that does not render 75% of the country politically irrelevant and then, with a president in place that the majority of us elected, all of the other things we care about likely will find a much more conducive environment for succeeding. It's not enough to support the National Popular Vote only in our hearts and minds.

STEP 5: WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR IN YOUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER

The National Popular Vote organization's "Writing a Letter-to-the-Editor in New Mexico" page provides an easy overview of New Mexico's major newspapers and then links to each paper's corresponding submission form (https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/writing-letter-editor-new-mexico). Depending on where you live, please also submit letters to the editor to smaller publications in your area. Doing so NOW will help raise public awareness about the National Popular Vote. Keep in mind that it may take several weeks for your letter to be published, so it's best to begin drafting soon.

For inspiration, here is the link to a letter to the editor by New Mexico Senator Mimi Stewart in support of the National Popular Vote, which was published in the Santa Fe New Mexican in November 2018: http://www.santafenewmexican.com/opinion/letters_to_editor/let-s-all-support-the-national-popular-vote/article_340a5cc9-8a26-505e-b7af-ff4693474e30.html
